Lot 229:
Description
A decorative sculpture depicting a Roman charioteer driving a two-horse chariot, known as a biga, in the classical revival style. The central figure is portrayed in traditional military attire, featuring a plumed helmet and cape, standing within a small wheeled chariot. The two horses are depicted in a rearing stance, supported by a central post. The entire work is integrally cast with a rectangular plinth base that is textured to resemble stone blocks. The base includes a repeating geometric border of triangles and circles along the side edges. The sculpture is finished with a gold-tone metallic coating, with darker accents in the recesses to simulate an aged patina. No signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers are visible on the exterior surfaces.
