Description

A collection of hexagonal promotional advertising display cards produced for National Westminster Bank (NatWest). These items date to the early 1970s, following the 1971 decimalisation of British currency and the 1972 introduction of the Access card. Each card is constructed from printed board and features a saturated colour background in shades of orange, purple, pink, yellow, blue, and green. The central design of each piece consists of a monochrome illustration in a Victorian or Edwardian woodcut or etching style. These illustrations depict various historical scenes, including early horseless carriages such as the Daimler oil motor car, family groups, and social gatherings. Each image is accompanied by a humorous caption promoting specific banking services including personal loans, insurance, pictorial cheques, budget accounts, travel cheques, and the then-new cash dispensers. The cards were designed for in-branch display following the merger of National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank.
