Lot 170:
Description
A framed colour print on paper after the original composition by the Italian master Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The work depicts a bustling veduta of the Piazzetta San Marco in Venice, viewed from the water. The composition includes prominent architectural landmarks such as the Campanile, the National Marciana Library, and the Doge’s Palace. The foreground is crowded with numerous gondolas and a large, ornate gilded ceremonial barge, identified as the Bucintoro. The print is housed in a contemporary reeded gilt-effect frame. No signature, date, or inscriptions are visible on the front of the work. The verso has not been inspected.
