Lot 137:
Description
This papasan chair, also known as a bowl or moon chair, is constructed from bent rattan and bamboo. The design features a two-part frame comprising a large circular bowl-shaped seat and a separate flared cylindrical base. The seat frame is built with concentric rattan rings supported by radial spokes that meet at a central hub. The base is formed by circular rims at the top and bottom connected by curved vertical supports. The seat is designed to rest freely on the base to allow for adjustable seating angles. The chair includes a circular, overstuffed, tufted cushion upholstered in a cream-coloured fabric. A small white rectangular manufacturer label is attached to the edge of the cushion, though the text is illegible. No stamps or maker’s marks are visible on the rattan frame.
