Description
A disassembled architectural fireplace surround comprising a horizontal frieze and a pair of matching vertical pilaster jambs. The components are constructed from cast plaster with a white painted finish. The horizontal frieze features a central oval laurel wreath flanked by foliate swags, with the end blocks decorated with deeply carved floral rosettes or paterae. The upper and lower edges are framed by gadrooned and egg-and-dart style mouldings. The matching pair of vertical pilasters feature acanthus leaf terminals at the top, leading into reeded shafts punctuated by husk or bellflower decorative motifs. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are visible on the decorative faces or side sections of the pieces.
