Lot 59:
Description
A small wall-mounted wooden cabinet or box, constructed in a traditional 18th-century English country style. The exterior is finished in a polished hardwood, likely walnut, featuring a single panelled door. The door is fitted with a decorative brass drop handle on a scrolled backplate and is secured to the carcase with two brass butterfly hinges. The interior is divided into two equally sized compartments by a fixed vertical wooden partition made of a lighter secondary wood, possibly pine or deal. The cabinet is topped with a plain surface featuring a slightly overhanging moulded edge and is supported by shaped bracket feet at the base. The construction and style are consistent with 20th-century reproductions of Early American or English country furniture, resembling pieces produced by firms such as the Davis Cabinet Company.
