Description
A pair of oak armchairs, or carvers, designed in a functional, utilitarian style with Arts and Crafts influences. Each chair is constructed from oak with a medium-oak finish, featuring traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The backrests are designed with two horizontal slats, and the down-swept arms terminate in rounded ends. The chairs are supported by straight legs joined by an H-stretcher. Each chair has a fixed, padded seat upholstered in a dark red rexine or vinyl material. A small, rectangular white paper label is present on the right arm of one chair, though the characters are not legible. This design is typical of British institutional or domestic furniture produced between the 1930s and 1950s.
