Lot 37:
Description
This chest of drawers dates to the mid-20th century and features a design closely resembling the Old Tavern collection by Ethan Allen. The carcase is configured with an unusual arrangement of six drawers, comprising two short drawers at the top, a double-height bonnet drawer to the middle-left balanced by two short drawers to the right, and one full-width drawer at the base. The drawer fronts and top are constructed from oak, while the side panels appear to be oak-veneered blockboard or plywood. The drawer fronts are decorated with distinctive vertical reeded moulding. Each drawer is fitted with brass swan-neck handles on circular stamped backplates. The secondary timbers used for the drawer carcases are pine or a similar softwood, joined with machine-cut dovetails. No maker marks or labels are visible on the piece.
