Description
An Edwardian mahogany wardrobe in the Sheraton Revival style by J. R. Cross, Dalston Cabinet Works, London. The piece is of two-piece construction, comprising a main upper carcase and a separate base section. The upper section features a single central door inset with an oval bevelled mirror plate. This door is flanked by two panels, each decorated with applied carved wood motifs featuring a floral spray within a ribbon-tied laurel wreath. The wardrobe is topped with a moulded overhanging cornice. The interior is fitted with a lateral hanging rail and several metal hanging hooks. The base section contains a single full-width deep drawer fitted with two brass swan-neck drop handles on oval backplates. The primary wood is mahogany with mahogany veneers, while the interior and drawer linings are constructed from secondary woods including oak and pine. An ivory-coloured celluloid maker label is fixed to the interior, reading: ESTD. J. R.
